The Glory of God in the Quran
“It is natural for the reader of the Quran to think of the essence of God which can’t be described in human terms and also to think of His attributes which come in many forms. It is just as natural for me while reading the Quran to stop and give glory to God as He heaps the same upon Himself per the following verses. Furthermore, I can’t comprehend why the enemies of Islam would remain so if they do give themselves the chance to read and contemplate our God and theirs in the perspective scriptures.
I will attempt to explain some of the following verses at the end of the article as well as bring few other examples. Let us start with the Quran:
“God knows what every female bears
And the length or shortness of the term in her womb
And He has assigned a measure for everything
He Is the Knower of the invisible and the visible
The Great, the Exalted.
It is all the same to Him whether
one conceals what is in his mind or broadcasts it.
Or hides in the night or appears in daytime
And everyone is traced by angels both ahead of him
And behind him and is protected by God’s command.[1]
Lo! God does not change the condition of a people
Until they change what is in their hearts.
And If God wills a hardship for a people
No one could repel it.
No one besides God could protect them
He is the one who shows you the lightning in fear and hope
And forms the heavy clouds
The clouds extol His Glory and so do the angels, in awe.
And God sends down thunderbolts to smitten with them
Whom He wills as they are disputing about God
Who is Mighty in wrath.
True prayers are to God only
And whoever calls upon others
His call will not be answered.
It is akin someone extending his hands to reach water
To drink but they can’t reach it.
The prayers of those who don’t believe are all in vain
For, to God prostrate everyone in the heavens or on earth
Willingly, or unwillingly just as they can’t rid themselves
from their shadows in the morning and the evening.”
Quran, 13: 8–15
The attribute prescribed by God in the above verses form but a minute portion of the many more throughout the Quran. All Muslims firmly believe that nothing happened or that will happen whether on earth or in heavens except that it happened according to God’s laws as he dictated in the Preserved Tablet.
The above verses talk first about the term of the unborn while still in the womb. In other verses of the Quran that we will come upon in the future, it gives more details about composition of the womb that astonished the medical establishment for its accuracy being uttered in seventh century Arabia. The verses then continue to talk about how God initially offers every human His protection for as long as they seek to do good. That is immediately followed by the statement that God does not change the status of a people unless they are willing to make the change.
A good example of the latter are the immigrants, for instance, who leave the security of their environment to seek a better life even if it meant gambling with their own lives. In a saying for the prophet of Islam quoting from the commands of God: O! my worshiper, seek and I shall help you. But again, God will help only those who try to help themselves.
[1] The implication of this verse is that God protects all people who are inclined by nature to do good until they decide to walk out on God’s command.
